The Trunks reviews are in . . .

Well the long-awaited Trunks videos finally came in. Most certainly well worth the wait. But you know I have to have a few comments about how FUNimation handled it. And if you haven't seen the Trunks episodes yet, then DO NOT READ THIS!! I don't want this to be a spoiler for anyone.

Trunks is really some bad dude! Shows up on the scene, makes mince meat of Frieza and King Cold with ease. The only thing that bothered me with the episodes was the well, the cheesy dialogue. Now when Frieza and Trunks had words between each other, that was cool. Trunks always had good come back to anything Freiza said. But where and the hell did they get King Cold's voice from? Now was it me or did he sound just like a woman, but only WORSE? And they made poor Bulma act like some sex-crazy addict! They had her even say that Goku was a stud (not that that bothers me, I like Goku also, but she need to choose what man she wants. She can't have 'em all!)! And I think I'll puke if Krillin says "bro" one more time.

I really don't know why they changed the voices on DBZ. Right now the only voices I like on there is Piccolo and Trunks. And Goku's, naturally. I can't imagine what the androids are going to sound like (if they talk, I'm not sure.); they may have them sound like the chipmunks! J

. . . And to the Burger King promotion with Dragonball Z . . .

The collectibles are really awesome! I plan on collecting them all. But can you believe the catch 22 on the video deal? According to the instructions, you must collect all seven DBZ figures, fill out each form, and mail it with shipping & handling costs to FUNimation. Now this is while supplies last, so about the time you finished collecting the seven figures the movies will be sold out! OR . . . you can mail the cost for the video ($5.00) plus S&H, and they will send you your movie with one form. What a gyp! I honestly thought they were going to sell the movies at Burger King. It's not enough that they make us wait and wait for the upcoming episodes, now we have to wait 4-6 weeks delivery for our tape via mail! Thanks a lot FUNimation!

WHAT THE HELL IS FUNimation DOING?

As you may already know, the countdown has officially begun! Even though back in March when I purchased my pre-ordered Trunks episodes, the release date was set on May 16. By now FUNimation has pushed the date up a week to May 23. Isn’t it enough that they have made us wait this long? Sometimes I wish FUNimation would give up their rights to Dragonball Z and another "competent" Production Company could take it over. But anyway, if you haven’t reserved yourself a copy of the Trunks episodes yet, go to your nearest Suncoat Video and do it! Where I live, you are required to place a $5.00 reserve or more per tape.

I’m not quite sure what happened to the release of Dragonball Z Movie four (Super Saiyan Goku). Reportedly they expect it to be released sometime this year . . . so I guess that puts a hold on the future movies also. I try to give FUNimation the benefit of the doubt; but it seems they just can’t handle DBZ and its demand. You would think that if you had a product that was selling—and selling quite well, they would keep customers happy by putting out newer merchandise. But what does FUNimation do? Stall. Make us wait. And wait. AND WAIT . . . to the point that we’re asking for blood! What in world could they be doing? I know . . . they so busy producing their "Chuck E. Cheese" tapes. I know they are making millions with that (I’m being a smart-ass now)!

I feel that the future of DBZ in America and its popularity depend on what move FUNimation makes next. All the while we’re sitting back watching season 3 all over again . . . Gundam Wing is getting popular and popular by the minute! After a while we’re going to loose all our DBZ fans to GW. But not me!

What can I say? What can I do? I am only one fan. But together, ALL of us . . . if we all could rise our voices, maybe FUNimation will hear us. If you want your voice heard about the delay in the production of upcoming DBZ episodes and movies, you can click on the link below and send your message here or email them from the FUNimation’s website. Every email counts! So support DBZ and send yours today!

Fansubs . . . buyer beware!

With the endless reruns of Dragonball Z on Cartoon Network, I am dying to see some DBZ material I haven't seen before. I asked around on how I could obtain some DBZ movies and I was quickly referred to eBay. I was so amazed on how much DBZ stuff is on there being auctioned! I bided on a few items, and lost. I then decided maybe it wasn't worth it.

A couple of days later, I started receiving emails from unknown persons saying that they were selling DBZ movies dirt-cheap. Curious, I inquired on what they had and their price. I couldn't believe it! So I picked what I thought was a good seller, and purchased 3 movies. After sending my money to the seller, and upon him receiving it, he emails me and says, "I'll get to your movies when I can, I'm really busy with a lot of orders. But since my order was so small, he would probably send my movies out in about a week or so." I was baffled! He hounded me to purchase the tapes, but will take his time sending them? Was it because I brought less and not more? I really wanted to be careful because this was the first time I dealt with fansub, so I purchased less. So after four weeks and repeated emails, I finally receive my movies. I was trilled but nervous . . . I didn't know what to expect. These were DBZ movies I had never seen before.

With my hands trembling, I loaded the tape into the VCR. As it played for the first five minutes, the picture was somewhat clear and I could read the subtitles. But after that . . . the pictures started rolling and was unclear, and I couldn't make out anything! I thought to myself, "Maybe it's a glitch, it'll stop after a while." But it didn't. The ENTIRE tape was like this. My anger arose more when I saw a warning on the tape. It was just like reading the subtitle (due to the poor quality, I had to pause the tape to read it), it said if I purchased this tape I was being ripped off! I was furious! This guy told me his movies were A to B+ quality, and to top it all off I got a message on the tape telling me I was ripped off? Hell no. I sent him an email and told him about the quality of the tapes and the "message". I told him that he needed to give me my money back or remake me some more tapes. He responded by saying that he would send me my money back, and that the tape were supposed to be good quality, but since I wasn't satisfied, he would refund me. But I haven't gotten my money back yet, this just happened last week so I wouldn't expect it that quick. But if I don't receive my money back in ample time . . . I am prepared to put his name, address and email name on my site to prevent this form happening to someone else.

Who can you trust? You take risks when you deal with fansubs, or anyone you don't know over the Internet. But if you find one that gives you exactly what you want, that has fast delivery and has a head for business, then stick with them. I took the risk, and I got burned. You are supposed to trust these people to give you good quality items but some are just out there to run a scam. So please . . . BE CAREFUL! Ask your close friends or go to good sites on information on where to find good reliable fansubs. And I know there are many good ones out there, but it's a shame there are a few out there that is giving the good ones a bad reputation! It only makes it harder for the good ones to do business.

The moral to this story is plain and simple:

If someone emails you out of nowhere and you don't know him or her, and they're offering you a deal that is just too good to be true . . .

Then it probably is.

*NOTE: This article is NOT out to put down fansubs-- I am just letting everyone know the experience I had with one that was not trusting.

DBZ & BURGER KING

DBZ & BURGER KING

April 20, 2000

I have been reading on Planet Namek that in May Burger King will be promoting Dragonball Z in their kid's meals and will be selling a DBZ tape with Goku driving. I'm glad that finally our show is getting some publicity form a major corporation. And that It's effect will give the show a positive response and more viewers. But I sure hope this promotion doesn't give anyone who hasn't seen DBZ before the impression that DBZ is some goofball show! You CANNOT compare DBZ to the Teletubbies (YUCK!)! But we'll have to wait and see. To the listing of the release dates for the upcoming DBZ episodes and the scoop on the release of a LIVE ACTION DBZ MOIVE (What?), check out Planet Namek's Daily updates page!

If you receive Cartoon Network newsletters via email, then you probably know now that they've done it . . . On April 24, 2000 they are adding a TOONAMI.COM to their site! I am so excited! I hope this will further promote DBZ, and maybe they'll have more information on our show there! Check it on Monday!

I would like to take this moment to shout out some thanks to many DBZ fans who has been more than helpful with me in improving my site. J Elmo07, Merlin the Great, and especially HomieBslice for his permission to use some of his images and sound bytes (I will be adding on soon!)! And Thanks to all the emails from so many others who wrote with such positive things to say about my site! All your comments and words of encouragement boosts me up, and strives me to do more! You are all the greatest! There is no way I could do it without you!

And one final note . . . it was brought to my attention that my message board wasn't working properly. Well, I've finally fixed the problem-- and it's up and operational! So please drop by when you can! I'd really like to hear from you! If anyone finds any dead links or technical problems with my site, please email me at once about it! Thanks!

FULL CYCLE . . . our last hope?

I'm quite sure everyone watched the "Full Cycle" this weekend on Cartoon Network. It was really good to see all the old school cartoons, like Thundercats and The Superfriends (what happened to Voltron?). And I have to give CN credit for the way they broadcasted Dragonball Z. Not enough episodes . . . but it was all right. And from what I saw they did manage to air 2 of the 3 DBZ movies again.

But there was too much Gundam Wing! They should have renamed it "Full Cycle with Gundam Wing" instead! I really don't want to knock the show . . . but CN is over-doing it with GW. And I was certainly hoping they would air the uncut episode of DBZ in the 1AM slot; but it didn't happen.

On the lighter side of the situation, I'm glad CN has introduced this "Rising Sun Toonami" on Saturdays. I guess the countdown is on . . . after airing all of the Garlic Jr. Saga and rest of the Frieza Saga on their regular time slots, will they go on to season 4? The word is CN isn't airing season 4 until September! What we do until then? Look at season 3 all over again? Funimation and CN are really start to irritate me with this! My greatest fear is that by the time they do air season 4; most of the DBZ viewers and fans will have switched over to GW. If you are a true DBZ fan, don't do this! The viewers is what makes this show possible, and right now I feel that DBZ is hanging on a thread with its endless reruns. But I WILL HOLD ON . . . I will ride this out for DBZ. I may be climbing the walls and be out of my mind before it all over, but I will do it! And I hope the rest of you will to.

Just to let you know before I go that I have one kick-ass message board now! I booted out the old one for a faster, more attractive message board that you will just love! Be sure to stop by, register, and leave me your ideas on things. KAMEHAMEHA!
